MoonMeander blasts EternaLEnVy over breakup of previous team

Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao has made a lot of enemies during his time in professional Dota 2. Among them is David "MoonMeander" Tan.

The Undying player blasted his former teammate in a recent Twitch stream. MoonMeander reflected on his time with EternaLEnVy on the Fighting PandaS team in 2019 and harshly criticized EternaLEnVy for how he departed the team at the time.

“One day before we had the signing with CR4ZY, [EternaLEnVy] left us. We were in talks with CR4ZY for weeks, months...and one day before he just left to join [Cloud9] to play at Beyond the Summit...I was so confused, who took our slot [in Dota Summit 12]?" moonmeander said. "And the whole time, this double-agent EternaLEnVy was the guy taking my slot, not saying a single thing, leaving one day before we signed a contract, going to Beyond the Summit, going 0-2 and instantly disbanding Cloud9.”

The criticism of EternaLEnVy is unsurprising as the carry player has burned bridges with a number of his former teams.

At the start of the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit season, EternaLEnVy and MoonMeander teamed up alongside Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling, Jonathan Bryle "Bryle" Santos, and Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu to form a new team named Fighting Pepegas, which was later renamed to Fighting Pepegas. The team successfully qualified for the first major of the season and the second minor, but shortly after the qualifiers, EternaLEnVy and Sneyking departed the team to join a new Cloud9 roster.

That Cloud9 team performed terribly, debuting at Dota Summit 12 with a 0-10 record on maps and losing its first 10 series in total. The team was released by Cloud9 following the cancellation of DPC majors with an overall 3-11 series record.

A few of EternaLEnVy's most controversial moments:

EternaLEnVy continues to drum up controversy

EternaLEnVy has transformed from one of Dota 2’s most popular figures to one of its most controversial over the last five years. After controversially splitting from Team Secret and claiming that Secret had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from him and other players, he founded his own organization named Team NP. The team drummed up controversy surrounding its release of Sivatheeban "1437" Sivanathapillai, who said the cut was not a “friendly” one.

While that Team NP move largely flew under the radar, EternaLEnVy officially became a sensitive topic during his time with Fnatic. EternaLEnVy bore the brunt of the criticism for the team’s release of Khoo "Ohaiyo" Chong Xin in favor of Saahil “Universe” Arora, which infamously came after a pizza party celebrating the team’s qualification for the 2018 Bucharest Major.

In 2019, he drummed up controversy yet again during his time with a new roster called Team Team. During ESL One Mumbai, the squad cut Jason "Newsham" Newsham and Nico “Gunnar” Lopez, after which Gunnar tearfully discussed the news during the event’s broadcast.

EternaLEnVy’s most recent controversy came in the qualifiers to The International 2021. EternaLEnVy released a statement on social media discussing how he wasn’t able to successfully force players off the lineup of his team, Black N Yellow, in order to form a new team of his own. The move drew sharp criticism from figures at all levels of the North American Dota 2 scene.

EternaLEnVy is currently a free agent in the Dota 2 scene. Despite his numerous controversies, the talented player likely won’t have much trouble cobbling together a new squad once the next season starts.
